An open letter to my sisters, and to all the other girls out there that need to hear this:

Ok, I know, I’m only 17. I’m in high school. I’m not that much older than you. What do I know, anyways?!

Just trust me. Maybe my advice will be useful to you. 😜

I was driving to school this morning listening to the conversation between my sister and her two freshmen friends that I drive in the morning, and I was thinking about the world that we live in: the expectations we face as girls, the gossip and the drama that we feel the need to participate in, the people around us that are our friends but maybe don’t really understand us.

Believe me, there are so many good, really sweet girls out there, that just aren’t like me, or you, or her, or any one girl in particular.

DISCLAIMER: You don’t have to pretend to love what everyone else does.

(I’m from Philly so I had to add the Rocky quote.✊🏽)

If you’re not interested in who’s gay or what she said about a random boy you’ve never met; if you don’t care about what name brand is out right now or the “next new thing” that everybody is raving about; if you are ok with not saying what you think every time the opportunity comes up; if you don’t fight with your parents and you don’t stay up till one watching YouTube videos about hairstyles that you’ll never do; if you’re okay with being friends with your siblings, and don’t want to be a part of the profanity in the hallways; if your hair isn’t always perfect, you don’t always say the right thing, and you wake up late all the time; here’s a fact:

YOU ARE STILL A NORMAL BEAUTIFUL GIRL THAT IS CAPABLE OF SUPER CRAZY AWESOME THINGS.

Be yourself. Please. Again with the cliches but it is 10000% true. Honestly though, why not? Why would you care what people think? If they don’t love the real you, you don’t want that love anyways. You deserve better than that.

I just want you to know that I’ve had some hard up hills in dealing with the world’s view of me, and I’m sure I’ll have more in the future. But if I’ve learned one thing, it’s that I owe it to myself to let the real me, the inside me, come out and be the same as the outside me.

Don’t be afraid to care, or to not care. Don’t be afraid to speak, or to say nothing. Don’t be afraid to just do what you feel is what you want (granted your heart is with Christ still).

Don’t be afraid to let the outside you be the same as the inside you.

I love you a bajillion, and I want you to know picking you first above pleasing anybody else will ALWAYS – ALWAYS – make you the happiest. 😊

Wouldn’t you rather be loved for who you are than liked for who you are not?

Savvy?

Love you lots. Come to me ever at any time for anything. 😘

❤️
